I.Because all have sinned
Romans 3:23 “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
What is sin? What does the scripture say about sin?
1.Sin includes our actions a.Do what you ought not to do
1 John 3:4 “Everyone who practices sin also practices lawlessness; and sin is lawlessness.”
b.Not do what you ought to do
James 4:17 “Therefore, to one who knows the right thing to do and does not do it, to him it is sin.”
2.Sin includes our words
Matthew 12:36-37 “But I tell you that every careless word that people speak, they shall give an accounting for it in the day of judgment. For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”
3.Sin includes our thoughts
Matthew 5:27-28 “You have heard that it was said, ‘YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT ADULTERY’; 28 but I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.”
II.Because the wage of sin is death
Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
It’s the irrefutable truth – everyone will die eventually. Scripture clearly states that sin leads to death, which is the consequence of man’s sin. Everyone has sinned. No one can escape death. Bible explains death is more than the passing of the body. It is the perishing of the soul.
Isaiah 53:4-8 We are like lost sheep gone astray on our own ways but God has made Jesus bear our sins. Our Lord Jesus redeemed us through His death. He was pierced and crushed in our place for our transgression. He was considered to be cut off out of the land of the living.
Then, Jesus was resurrected on the third day of His burial. By the resurrection power, those who believe in Christ will also be resurrected physically. John 11:25 “Jesus said to her, I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies.” This is the promise from Jesus!
Those who genuinely believe in Jesus should have no fear of death. We are eternally saved. One day we will be resurrected even we die. Thanks be to God who gives us the victory over death through our Lord Jesus (1 Cor 15:57).
III.Because man cannot save himself
Romans 3:20 “because by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified in His sight; for through the Law comes the knowledge of sin.”
Matthew 1:21 "She will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.” Other religions save by self-effort such as self-imposed constraints or act of kindness but Christianity saves by faith through Christ.
I John 4:16 God is love. This is the truth: God loves you and me. John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.”
